Migration guide

Get your Garmin Descent dives out of Garmin Connect

A Garmin Descent syncs beautifully with Garmin Connect and then sits in an ecosystem built for running and cycling, where a dive is just another activity. Divers who want a real logbook export the dive out and keep it somewhere that understands depth profiles and marine life.

Move your dives, step by step

  1. Open Garmin Connect on the web, find the dive in your activity list and open it.

  2. Use the export option to download the original FIT file, or a UDDF export if the dive view offers one.

  3. Move the exported file to your phone: AirDrop, iCloud Drive or email all work, anything that puts it in the iOS Files app.

  4. In SeaLog, tap the plus button, then Import dives, then the matching format.

  5. Pick the file. Every dive arrives with its depth profile, and anything already in your logbook is skipped rather than duplicated.

Garmin exports one activity at a time on the web. For a large back catalogue, the account-wide data export Garmin offers under account settings is quicker, and Subsurface can read a Descent directly over USB as well.

What survives the move

✅ Comes across

  • Date, time, duration and maximum depth
  • The depth profile sample by sample
  • Water temperature, gas and surface interval

⚠️ Does not

  • Garmin Connect's fitness metrics that have no place in a dive log

Whatever comes in can go back out: SeaLog exports the whole logbook to UDDF, CSV or PDF at any time. We would rather you could leave than have to trust us.

Read your computer directly instead

If the software is the broken part, going straight to the hardware is often faster.

Questions

Can SeaLog read a FIT file?

Read the FIT import page for exactly what is supported today. UDDF is always the safest bet, and every route on this page ends in a file SeaLog can open.

Your dives, on the phone that is already in your pocket

Free to download, offline first, and every dive exportable the day you decide to leave.
