Privacy Policy
SeaLog is built offline-first and private by default: your logbook belongs to you. This page explains exactly what data the SeaLog iOS app and the sealog.life website handle, why, and the controls you have. Last updated: July 29, 2026.
Who we are
SeaLog is made by Roadtrip Technologies Limited (“we”, “us”), the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us any time from the app’s Help & support chat (You tab) or at support@sealog.customerly.io.
The short version
- Your dives are stored on your device first, then backed up to your private account when you sign in.
- Everything is private by default. Nothing is public unless you switch your profile to public.
- Apple Health data is read only, only with your permission, and is never used for advertising or shared with anyone.
- We never sell your data, and there are no third-party ads in the app.
- You can export your whole logbook (UDDF, CSV, PDF) and ask us to delete everything, at any time.
Data we collect
Account and profile
You sign in with Apple or Google. We receive your name, email address and a stable account identifier. Your profile (username, display name, bio, avatar and optional social links) is stored with your account.
Your logbook
The dives you log or import: date, duration, dive site and its coordinates, depth profile, temperatures, cylinders and gas mixes, air consumption, notes, buddies, ratings, costs, gear, marine life sightings, certifications (including photos of your cards, if you add them), insurance details, and the photos or video links you attach to a dive. Dive photos live on your device and, when sync is on, in your account’s private cloud storage.
Apple Health
With your explicit permission, SeaLog reads dive workouts and underwater depth data from Apple Health, only to create dive entries in your logbook so you don’t retype them. SeaLog never writes to Apple Health. Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, is never shared with third parties, and is never used for any purpose other than importing your dives.
Dive computers
With your permission, SeaLog connects to your dive computer over Bluetooth (or reads its export files) to import your dives. Only dive data is transferred.
Photos and camera
With your permission, SeaLog looks at your photo library on-device to find pictures taken during a dive and suggest them for that dive. Only the photos you actually attach are stored with your logbook. The camera is used only if you photograph a certification card.
Location
With your permission, SeaLog uses your location while you use the app to place a new dive on the map and suggest nearby dive sites. A location is stored only as part of a dive you save.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details. Our server receives the transaction identifier and storefront from Apple to verify that your subscription is real and attached to your account.
Device and usage data
We collect anonymous usage events (for example which onboarding step was completed, that an import succeeded, that a purchase happened) together with device model, OS version and language, to understand what works and fix what doesn’t. If you enable notifications, we store your device’s push token to deliver them.
Support
When you contact us, the conversation and the email you write from are processed through our support platform so we can answer you.
Services we rely on
These processors handle data on our behalf, under their own privacy commitments:
- Supabase: database, authentication and file storage for your account and synced logbook.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, push notifications, Wallet passes for certification cards, and Apple Health (read on-device).
- Google: Sign in with Google, Firebase Analytics in the app, and Google Analytics on this website.
- Meta Platforms: the Facebook SDK in the app reports install attribution and aggregate conversion events (for example that a subscription started) so we can measure our ads. It never receives your logbook or Health data.
- Customerly: support chat and help center.
- Vercel: hosting for this website.
Social features and public content
Your logbook is private by default. If you switch your profile to public, the parts you choose (profile, dives, photos, stats) become visible in the app’s Social tab and on your public page at sealog.life. Granular toggles let you decide what is shown, and you can go back to private at any time. Buddy tags and likes are visible to the people involved.
What we never do
- We never sell your personal data.
- We never show third-party ads in the app.
- We never use Apple Health data for anything except importing your dives.
Where your data lives and how it is protected
Your device keeps a full local copy of your logbook (that is what makes SeaLog work on a boat with no signal). The synced copy lives in our Supabase infrastructure, protected by row-level security so each account can only read its own data, and all traffic is encrypted in transit.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Signing out erases the local copy from your device. To delete your account and all synced data, follow the steps on our account deletion page, or ask us from the in-app chat or at support@sealog.customerly.io: we delete it within 30 days (residual backups expire within 90 days). Support conversations and anonymous analytics may be retained separately.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict and delete your personal data, and to object to processing. The app itself covers most of this: you can edit everything, and export your full logbook as UDDF, CSV or PDF. For anything else, contact us. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
This website and cookies
sealog.life uses Google Analytics to measure aggregate traffic (pages viewed, country, referrer). Google Analytics sets cookies; you can block them in your browser without affecting the site. Public diver pages show only content their owners chose to make public.
Children
SeaLog is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes will also be announced in the app.
