Suunto SML files and what to do with them
SML is Suunto's own XML log file, written by Suunto's desktop and app software. It is a real dive file with samples in it, not a summary, which makes it a decent rescue format when UDDF is not on the menu.
Import a SML file into SeaLog
Get the file onto your phone. AirDrop, iCloud Drive or email all work, anything that puts it in the iOS Files app.
In SeaLog, tap the plus button, then Import dives, then SML file.
Pick the file. Dives arrive with everything the format carries, and anything already in your logbook is skipped rather than duplicated.

Questions
Should I use SML or UDDF?
UDDF if the software offers both, because it is the format everything else reads too. SML is a perfectly good second choice and keeps the profile.
My Suunto software will not export at all.
Then go around it. Read the computer directly with Subsurface over its cable, or with SeaLog over Bluetooth if your model has a radio. The migration guide for DM5 walks through both.
