Garmin FIT files and your dive log

FIT is Garmin's activity format, and a Garmin Descent writes its dives into it alongside every run and ride. It carries the depth samples, wrapped in a container designed for sport rather than for diving.

Import a FIT file into SeaLog

  1. Get the file onto your phone. AirDrop, iCloud Drive or email all work, anything that puts it in the iOS Files app.

  2. In SeaLog, tap the plus button, then Import dives, then FIT file.

  3. Pick the file. Dives arrive with everything the format carries, and anything already in your logbook is skipped rather than duplicated.

Where FIT files come from

Leaving one of these behind? There is a step-by-step guide for most of them: Suunto DM5, Movescount, the Suunto app, Shearwater Cloud, Garmin Connect, Subsurface.

Questions

Where do I get the FIT file?

Open the dive in Garmin Connect on the web and export the original activity, or take the account-wide data export from your Garmin account settings if you have a lot of them.

Can I skip Garmin Connect?

Subsurface can read a Descent directly over USB and export UDDF, which is often quicker for a big back catalogue.
