Alive but dependent on someone else's app. Scorpena still sells the Alpha and updated its manual in 2024, yet it has never shipped its own software: the computer relied on CREST's Dive Story app, and when that was retired in April 2025 Scorpena simply posted migration instructions to Dive Story Pro.

Worth knowing

Scorpena publishes no software of its own. The Alpha has always depended on CREST's Dive Story family of apps for log download, settings and firmware updates.
The old Dive Story app was withdrawn on 1 April 2025 and Scorpena posted a migration document for moving to Dive Story Pro. Anyone still running the old app should move before it stops working entirely.
In libdivecomputer the Alpha shares a protocol family with the CREST CR-4 and the Deep 6 Excursion, which is exactly why one app covers all three.
Scorpena's own manual PDF path on scorpena.com returns a server error; the working copy is the 2024 revision hosted on Google Drive and linked from the product page.
Scorpena is primarily a spearfishing and freediving equipment brand, so the Alpha is a freedive-first computer with scuba and gauge modes rather than a technical diving instrument.
